Blood Moon Rises: the Myreque saga ends — and here's your fix-check before you dive in
The short version: Old School RuneScape's newest Grandmaster quest, The Blood Moon Rises, went live at 10:00 UTC on June 30 and closes out the long-running Myreque saga. A week on, Jagex has hotfixed a stack of launch issues and lined up a Maggot King loot buff — so here's what's fixed, what's still open, and what's coming in next week's update.
01The quest: the end of the Myreque
For years, Morytania has lived under the shadow of Lord Lowerniel Drakan while the Myreque resistance fought and fell in the dark. The Blood Moon Rises is the final chapter of that story, and it's a Grandmaster quest — Old School's toughest tier. Complete it and you unlock a brand-new region, Vampyrium, the ancestral homeland of the vampyres.
Vampyrium doesn't arrive empty. Alongside the quest, Jagex added a clutch of new content there: Bloodwood trees (their sap makes Seeker arrows, an upgrade you apply to existing arrows), a new Leechfin Fishing activity, a new Slayer creature — the Venators — and a solo boss, the Maggot King. Beat the boss and you can chase the Elder venator fang (used to craft the new best-in-slot ranged amulet, the Necklace of Rupture) and the Crimson kisten, a best-in-slot crush special-attack weapon.

02Before you start: two settings worth a look
This one leans hard on visual layering and depth effects, especially throughout Vampyrium. If you're on RuneLite, Jagex recommends the standard GPU plugin — players on the Legacy GPU plugin may hit visual glitches beyond the veil, so it's worth switching before you load in.
It's also a story-heavy finale built to be soaked in. For players who want the full atmosphere, Jagex shared the exact settings it recommends:
- AudioMaster 100%, Music 20%+, Sound Effects 45%+, Area Sounds 25%+, with Music Mode set to Area.
- GraphicsView Distance 50 or higher, and the standard (not Legacy) GPU plugin on RuneLite.
03The fix-check: what's already patched
A launch this big means a live known-issues thread, and Jagex has been posting fixes since day one. Here's what has already been hotfixed — no action needed on your end:
- HotfixedSeeker Arrows now deliver their intended +30 accuracy — a launch bug had them under-performing in certain situations. They're also no longer usable in F2P, which wasn't intended.
- HotfixedThe Crimson kisten was too strong in PvP at launch and has been toned down.
- HotfixedCertain Maggot spawns during the Maggot King fight were appearing incorrectly inside the arena — corrected.
- HotfixedLogging out with the Cog in your inventory during Sangvesti no longer causes it to despawn.
- HotfixedThe Vampyrium Agility shortcut got a longer cooldown (July 3) so it can't be used to farm near-passive Agility XP while bankstanding.
- HotfixedSuperior Venators are now only attackable by the player they spawned for (July 4).
- ResolvedA launch-day accuracy bug was resolved; Jagex says it snapshotted record kill times from before the fix so any records made unobtainable by the bug can be removed.
- Next weekYou can't take an axe from the log stump at Softa Forest if you're carrying a Zombie Axe or Battleaxe.
- Next weekTarnished bracelets are incorrectly labelled as a necklace.
- Next weekThe Direbat can be lured to the bank chest in Sangvesti, and several dialogue typos are being cleaned up.
- InvestigatingReports that the Maggot King's audio keeps playing after you teleport away.
04Coming next week: rewards, balance and softer deaths
Beyond the bug fixes, Jagex's "aimed for next week" notes lay out a round of balance and quality-of-life changes. The headline is the Maggot King loot buff:
- RewardsMaggot King loot is getting Elite Clue Scrolls, some drop-table tweaks, and harvested loot sent straight to your inventory (which removes the old 15-Leechfin drop).
- BalanceReduced death fees at the Maggot King for your first few kills — and Jagex says it'll extend this to everyone, not just first-timers, so existing players aren't left out.
- BalanceSunspear & Blisterwood Stakes rebalance: the Stakes will be a viable but not stronger alternative, while the Sunspear becomes more usable as a mainhand weapon.
- BalanceCrimson kisten PvM and PvP fixes, plus its standard attack switching to the punchier Special Attack animation.
- BuffLeechfin Fishing Blood-sac yield up 20%.
- ChangeThe unintended one-click Sap-treated Logs Fletch is being removed — Jagex wants to poll that kind of interaction properly rather than ship it by accident.
- HoldSeeker Arrow conversion is being reworked — Jagex recommends holding onto your buckets of Bloodwood sap for now until the new system lands.
Also on the list: tooltips on the locked doors in Drakan's Castle, and Venators moving into the Slayer section of the collection log. If Maggot King is on your to-do list and you're chasing rewards rather than the kill itself, waiting for next week may pay off.
05The market corner: a quiet week up top
With a new Grandmaster quest driving traffic through Morytania, you might expect the Grand Exchange to twitch. It didn't. Around publish time, the endgame staples were flat — nothing here moved more than about 3% in 24 hours, and none of the week's small dips tie back to Vampyrium content:
| Item | Price | vs 24h avg |
|---|---|---|
| Twisted bow | 1.50B | +0.8% |
| Scythe of vitur (uncharged) | 1.29B | −2.0% |
| Tumeken's shadow (uncharged) | 207M | −2.1% |
| Bandos chestplate | 23.5M | +0.2% |
| Bandos godsword | 17.7M | +0.7% |
| Dragon warhammer | 15.3M | −1.4% |
| Toxic blowpipe (empty) | 10.6M | −2.9% |
| Abyssal whip | 992K | +0.3% |
Prices and change against the 24-hour average, from the OSRS Wiki live Grand Exchange prices API, as of 6 July, 12:16 UTC. The biggest movers of the week were the blowpipe (−2.9%) and the two top-tier weapons easing off — hardly a stampede.

Yes — it's a Grandmaster quest, Old School's highest difficulty tier, and it's the finale of the Myreque saga. Completing it unlocks the new region of Vampyrium.
If you're chasing rewards rather than the kill itself, waiting may pay off: Jagex has said next week's update will add Elite Clue Scrolls, adjust the drop table, and send harvested loot straight to your inventory.
Many have — Jagex has hotfixed the Seeker Arrow accuracy bug, toned down the Crimson kisten in PvP, and corrected incorrect Maggot spawns, among others. A few smaller issues, like some dialogue typos and a mislabelled Tarnished bracelet, are set to be coldfixed in next week's update.
